The Doors of our Lives

Was reading 'O' magazine last night, and it's an edition on aging. This one article had women of different ages talking about what it felt like being their age, compared to what they thought it would have been like.

One person, a 38 year old, mentioned something about the doors we go through in our lives. Then I had a thought. How would my life have been different today, if I had chosen one door instead of the ones I chose at various ages in my life. So I started to make a list.....

10 yrs old Choose St Hugh's Choose other school
11 Choose French Choose Spanish
15 Go to France Go to 6th form
16 Repeat 6th form Leave 6th form
18 Do Hotel Mgmt
20 Do summer job Loaf out summer
21 Do internship in Jamaica
22 Work at Kgn hotel
31 Work in Grenada
Scholarship
etc etc
this year Accept short term Go on to Phd
contract

I have been asking myself since July this year, where this last door I have chosen will take me to. The future is yet to be seen. Isn't it exciting?

I have never thought of our lives as having 'doors' but I suppose the analogy is not bad.

My way of thinking about life is that we all have God given talents and it is what we do with these talents that can make the difference in our lives. I guess the use of our talents could be thought of as door opening. Agree?

Actually, it is a pretty well known metaphor, Doc, used in a number of movies, like for instance the Matrix Reloaded. Nevertheless, an interesting post, Michelle...

Very interesting Michelle.

My first job was in Accounting, and I stayed there for 7 years. After the 5 year mark I realised that I could just end up doing this thing for 25 years and like others in the office struggle to buy a little car and a Portmore house(not that there is anything worng with Portmore houses).

I decided that I wanted a life that would not have me couped up in an office and that would pay me whatever I wanted based on effort and ingenuity. I set myself timeframes for completing each goal, and achieved them before time.

I am now on course (with my new job) and hope to move on to the next phase next year. Dont worry you'll hear more in a few months.
