I'm on holiday!

Some of you would have got my email detailing the abrupt end to my short term stint with what I will call Alien Hotels & Resorts. So as of 5pm on Wednesday 29 October, I was free to start enjoying the Spice Isle, once I left that wretched hotel.

So, here's what I did once the taxi pulled up and loaded my many bags (must not pack so much stuff! darn it). We drove to the hotel where I would stay for the rest of my time here, and I told him under no circumstances was he to answer any questions about where he had dropped me. Got settled in very quickly, and was pleased to see that they had done some small changes since I was last there in May 2002. Ah, creature comforts, so unlike the Alien hotel. In what respects?

Well the AC here is quiet and actually cools the room, they have cable so more than the 8 or so channels I had to endure, the towels are plush (in the last 3 months I had forgotten what plush towels looked like), the bed is firm but not like a block of concrete as in one of the Alien hotels, there is an iron and ironing board and full kitchen facilities. Need I go on? OK, I won't.

Anyway, changed into my cocktail outfit for I was now going to my former former place of employment where I am made to feel welcomed. I was killing two birds with one stone, as the saying goes, by seeing cousin Raqs and some repeat guests who I keep in contact with from my days there. They don't look a day older. 14 trips to this hotel certainly agrees with them. After chit-chatting with the owner and his wife (another Alien concept at the Alien hotel), cocktails, and pictures of course (me = Gladys), it was to the bar for a drink with Raqs and the Resort Manager and wife, then up to dinner.

Scrumptious meal....oh, that's another thing that was lacking at the Alien hotels - scrumptious meals. That's an Alien concept for them. Here, the Seared Tuna was divine, the Baked Local Chicken flavourful, and ooooh la la, that smooth Nutmeg Ice Cream. Yes, I didn't stick to the "no carbohydrates after 5pm" plan. Twas a luverly evening, helped by those two delicious glasses of Chablis.

This morning, the Chablis took its toll. My body was in shock I think. So I got up at 6:30am....1.5 hours before I should have. Ordered Room Service and got a nicely shaped omelette that actually had crispy bacon in it, unlike the fatty stuff at the Alien Hotels. Let that go down, watched some of the CABLE TV, then had a small bowl of cereal.

Headed out to the bank, had to go back to the wretched hotel to get a document so that I could lodge the dosh. The regular FC was delayed from a trip abroad so I, with the patience of JOB, waited about 2 hours for her to arrive and prepare the document. Back to the bank, then hopped on a bus into town. Surprise, surprise. This one doesn't have music blaring. And I get to sit in the front.

Went to the airline, bought my ticket (having been left stranded by Alien Hotels), then called a friend who was going to take me to Immigration to extend my stay but he said it was too late so we'd do that tomorrow. Went to Creole Shack and had late lunch. Lawks these people need training. Had pork, fish and veggies. Pork wasn't all that good.

Remembering that having cable tv meant that I could watch Oprah, I hopped on a bus back up this side, stopped at the supermarket, and headed back 'home'. So good to be back to normal, with normal people in a hotel which functions like you'd expect a normal hotel to function.

More in a few days about my touristy activities. I'm enjoying every minute of it. If you haven't been here, you definitely need to take in this island. I promise you, you won't be disappointed, and nobody will ask you to leave abruptly. Promise.
