Look what the Zoo has come to....
One sorry alligator. It looks dehydrated.
And another...
Look carefully and you'll see the mongoose (mongeese? mongooses?)
Peacocks in scrubby surroundings. It just does not match their beauty.
More pictures (including the king of the jungle)....
You think these can bite any human? Dem teet will bruk!
Feathered friends
They're one of these types of owls...can't remember.
And with beautiful scenery for a backdrop, the Hope Zoo could be so much more....
But the authorities have got it HORRIBLY wrong. Take a look below...
SHAME, SHAME, SHAME.
Ok....leave the zoo alone. The Acting Curator is a pal of mine and a former work colleague of Kirk's......they do the best they can with a depleted budget and little attention from the GoJ...so....as usual we struggle on, tunning we hand fi mek fashion...I will invite him to read the post, so he can hear what u horrid lot are saying about the zoo..:-)
Posted by: Patch at January 2, 2004 12:45 PMyes, invite them to read this, and tell them to increase the entry fee by at least 150% for a start!
I remember many years ago, the zoo was well kept. Them cyant beg money or something from some international organization? if they can't then they must up the fee.
Posted by: Michelle at January 2, 2004 01:29 PMI would pay more, but the Zoo would have to be improved first. If it were even free, I probably wouldn't go with the place as it is now. There used to be security issues with Hope Gardens in general, so that would have to be addressed too...
Posted by: Mad Bull at January 2, 2004 01:38 PMMichelle, I haven't been to the Zoo or Hope Gardens in years. Unfortunately, it has suffered like most of anything that we once knew was good in this country. Chronic years of neglect. It really is a shame though.
Posted by: Dr. D. at January 2, 2004 05:15 PMI too have not been to the zoo in a while and from your pics, it certainly does not look as good as I remembered it. The lion pic was funny.
Posted by: Trish at January 2, 2004 08:34 PMhi, i'm an italian journalist. i write for a monthly newspaper called Jack, that is about technology and new life stile dedicated especially to men age 20 to 35. I'm contacting you because i'm looking for a blogger from Jamaica that can write an article (we will translate it from english to italian) for my newspaper about the city, the changes, where to go, what to see, which (if ) are the areas in which there is a technological evolution.
> > > > > the article has to be long 6000 characters, and we'll be well payed in US dollars. we can find an agreement about the money if you are interested in writing this article for our newspaper. and i would give you many more details about what exactly we need. I ask you to answer to this email also if you are not interested, or if you want to suggest me somebody else that can be interested in this job.

Even though I am not a lover of animals, I feel it for those in the Zoo! Not a happy group! I wonder if help is on the way? I am now having second thoughts about taking a group of children from SOS there later this month...
Posted by: Marcia at January 13, 2004 02:04 PMLike may others, it has been years since Ihave set foot at the Zoo in Hope and perhaps these truly sorry fotos of animals should be sent to TPDCO. WHO I believe sometime ago, had great plans/funds for the imrovemet of the Zoo and Hope Gdns.
This is a palce to which TOURISTS both local and foreign go, and it is not right to take any person be it child or adult to see how a Zoo is maintained and animals are treated !! What is the animal protection society doing? There also used to be a spider - hopefully long gone and some serpents hopefully also long gone to a better life. I am speechless at what I have seen
even if there is very little money - then yr friend can reduce the size of the zoo and the animals it holds to what the budget can maintain!! and certainly increase the entrance fee - a patty is more expensive than that!!
