Rats as pets

Saw a show on Animal Planet today with a lady talking about why rats make good pets, and how they act very close to how humans behave. I guess that's why they use rats to try out drugs and test behaviour.

So when I saw the programme, it reminded me of a year long ago, when we found rats in Negril while on holiday. These were rat babies. Tiny tiny things. Dark in colour. We took one home and fed it milk with a Q-tip. I think after awhile Mummy found out and that was that.

Funny how when you are introduced to something in a particular perspective, that's the perspective you stick with. So rats were dirty rodents, so that's what Mummy thought this one would have grown up to be.

Pity. She didn't get to see how different it coulda been.

Rats are evil, nasty disgusting creatures, fit only for extermination or for feeding pet snakes. So saith the Bull....

I have two pet mice, and they are precious little things, but I still have trouble reconciling myself to rats as pets.
