At the restaurant by the sea (it's called Fisherman's Wharf), they have a buffet everynight. You order your meat or fish, then go to the buffet. They have plantains every night, and when they don't have, I ask. Last night they did some specially and sent it down from the other restaurant.
I'm supposed to be remembering that plantain is carbohydrate and therefore I should have in moderation! But it nice cyant done.
Posted by yamfoot at October 12, 2004 08:50 PMI too am a lover of the plantain..however since Ivans passing it has become so scarce and when you do find it, the price that is associated with it is pretty expensive.
Ripe or Green it makes no difference...
I do hope you have a wonderful time in Guyana.
Posted by: strainer10 at October 13, 2004 07:44 AMFor me....fried green plantain....big chunks, fried partially, taken out of the pan then squashed and returned to the pan to complete the frying 'till golden brown. Sprinkle with salt and eat hot.
Ripe, I much prefer baked with honey, brown sugar and some butter to fried.
Moderation Yammie! ;-)
Posted by: Dr. D. at October 13, 2004 05:37 PMNow I am getting hungry for plaintains too. The way I just love them is in plaintain tarts!!!! Yum-yum, I have introduced the kids to them over the years...all ways of fixing plaintains. Once I had to educate the grocery store people because they had it listed as coming from the "East Indies". I just reminded them that that meant India not the Caribbean. But what can you expect...this is small town Central Ontario...I am fortunate that they have them here fairly regularly.
