How do people live like that?

I was on the road for quite a bit today and yesterday.

Yesterday morning, I saw a lady take a forkful of some food while at a red light. Clearly not enough time to eat breakfast at home.

Today I got caught in traffic going for my nephew at school. The traffic was moving at a snail's pace. I said to myself "how can people do this every day Monday to Friday?"

Can't companies introduce flexi time? People leave work at 5 and everybody rushes....for what??? To sit in the traffic for an hour. If there was flexi time, they could come in at 10am, leave at 6pm and cut their time on the road by half, thus also saving gas.

I am really really grateful for my time working in hotels. I would go to work at 9, or at 10, or at 11, or at 1 or at 3 or at 4. I could therefore have leisurely mornings if I was going in later. And I wasn't on the road the same time as everybody else.

I am averse to sitting in traffic. Very averse. I could not live like that, and will not. Ever again. When I moved to Grenada I cut out sitting in traffic. What bliss.

I am definitely not into having tea or breakfast in the car....that is out! I will have to reach work late or change jobs if I must live that way!

Its the age old debate about the price of progress isn't it. How many of us are prepared to give up living in the rat race and competing with the Joneses for life as a "noble Savage" in the tropics. I Figure that by reading through my Observer on the way to work, I can at least catch up with what's happening before the madness of the office. The traffic is sickening, but what can we do...take the bus? Who goes first?

A sign of the times Yamfoot. I leave early simply because wifey has to be at her job by 7:30 (teacher)so I rarely see too much morning traffic. She also finishes early so she keeps the car to do pick ups.
I've seen the eating in the car thing when I used to be in Portmore. Having been there I known some people don't have a choice because your butt better be out of the house by 5:45 or you cannot reach to work on time if you have drop offs.
Flex hours may work but i'm sure it will only be for a time and honestly, JUTC is not an option. I refuse to put me or my family through that torture. What to do?

Girl, you keep talking bout Grenada and mekking me jelous. I thinking I should go back you know.
Well, I hear ya bout the work and traffic thing. Was just commenting on ppls busy lives the other day. Me.... I take it easy....start 9.30 and end 6.30 (lunch from 12.10 to 3.30 or 4.30) which gives me nuff time to go home and take a nap or clean the house or something.

Hmmm, I tried the eating breakfast in the car thing to get 15 more minutes of sleep, but it's really hard to eat anything, let alone drink a hot beverage while doing 60mph down a windy road! So, I've actually began forcing myself to wake up earlier and eat!

well I invent my own flexi time , usually get to work at 9:30 -10 and leave 5:30-6. Getting in at 9 is an option but I cant be bothered with it and I think only one person in my office actually reaches here close to that time anyways.

The breakfast thing I could see myself possibly doing cause I have a hard time eating before 8 -830 so most days i leavehome without breakfast an buy something when I reach work.
