A note on having kids

There is this other point about me not having kids. I have the sickle cell trait and there is this complication about the child being a sickler if the partner has the trait or disease.

I don't want to have to ask a mate when I meet him 'do you have sickle cell trait or disease?' So I'm not in a rush.

Of course that's an excuse. But a very good one.

You're really pushing it aren't you? Finding every possible excuse to not have.

I have the Sickle trait too....and though I fully agree that I do not wish to have a child with the full blown disease (chances are 25% of full blown HbSS disease for every child born of a couple that each have the trait), I sure as hell have no problem finding out if a potential mother has the trait. The trait causes very little (if any) illness.

Don't let that be a deterrent. Anyway, its life. If it is to be that you're to have a young 'un, then you will. Sickle cell or not.
