Where does the responsibility lie?

As I sat in the movie theatre tonight, this statement came to my mind....

The entertainment industry is ruining our world.

I think it's true. The younger generation, who causing much of the problems, have grown up in the era of Cable television, "bling-bling", BET and all the things that influences their mind.

But, you might argue, do the Rwandans have access to Cable television as much as we do this side of the world? (I'm assuming no) Don't they have unrest too?

They should only have Discovery, National Geographic, Classic Arts Showcase, Wisdom, and those kinds of channels. Bannish the Cartoon Networks, Nickolodeons and Disneys which are negatively influencing our children. Of course, you could just not subscribe to cable.

(In my house, that's house it would have been if I had had kids. In fact, when I first went to live in Grenada, I got all the channels. Then I reduced them because I only watched the networks and local television, and besides, I wasn't home much.)

Have you looked at some of those movies they make? Take I, Robot for example. Now how di hell are some robots supposed to come and take over the world? They want to give people ideas, just like they do in those bang-bang you're dead type movies. All that bloodshed. All that conflict.

However, are the movies, in most cases, merely mirroring life? Which comes first....the chicken or the egg?

I propose a total lockdown of the entertainment industry in the USA. It's not like that in the UK. Much more mild.

Some very valid points here Mich.

Disney has so changed. Whatever became of good old time Disney characters?

MTV, BET etc are really just simulated sex....(does anyone make a music video now that hasn't got a bed scene?) pickney dem watching it from what age...no wonder many of them sexually active from all age 10-12!

Steeups....Is na di tv or music nor any ting so. Is pure lazy parenting we doing now. Parents have abdicated their responsibility to the tv the babysitter and the teacher.

They demand nothing of their chidlren and give them everything. Kids get to go on summer vacation trips after having brought home unsatisfactory report cards for the whole year.

We expect little from our children so their goal is lowest achievement they can attain. Just doing the bare minimum. Most don't to well to make their parents proud as a matter they seem to enjoy making their parents shame in public.

If you doh let di Disney in your house how they gone get it eh? I am saying parents these dayz have forgotten that the one thing a child wants more than anything else in this world is its parents, acceptance and approval; not even love supercedes these though it makes them possible. This is an unchanging universal truth. We however have devalued them by accepting and approving the poorest of offerings from our children.

Children live what they see and learn so if we let hollywood and disney be their main visual and teachers what do we expect?

Doh mean to sound self-righteous but I am fed up wid parents who can do so much better b/c they are capable and all they are contributing to our socities are spoilt and untrained children who will be nothing adults. We cyah blame anybody or anything but ourselves for that.

well said Dekkah..if I had kids, I would NOT expose them to television apart from educational shows.

And I would try and only work the same hours when they are at school, so that when they get home, I get home too.

What wrong with Disney?

For me the number one thing is that there is way too much advertisements in there. Why do you need to advertise to kids and why so much? Small children already starting to learn that they need plenty things to be cool.

There are other issues, like sponge bob dialogue being very adult but it is really not DISNEY per se but the amount of tv that kids are allowed to watch and the fact that DISNEY is what most kids watch. I guess DISNEY could inlcude Cartoon Network and Nick tv and the other kids focused tv here.
