Lazy day

I'm allowed. I'm on holiday remember?

Got up, made breakfast cause I bought eggs yesterday and cheese, so made a sardine and cheese omelette courtesy of the oil brought for me in a Gerber bottle. They should sell essential things like these in miniature sizes so if you're here only for a couple of days then you don't have to buy a big ole container. Thanks again Brigitte.

Next stop was the Immigration office to extend my stay, now that I had a return ticket in hand. The officer asked what was the reason for the extension. "To enjoy more of your beautiful island". No more questions asked. Then he tells me that he has been to Jamaica (Kingston) and that for all the talk outside about how bad Kingston is, he didn't see it. I agreed with him and told him that you just had to know which areas to stay out of. He said he went to some of those areas and he still didn't see anything. Great. We have one more supporter.

Got dropped at Spice. Checked my e-mail, then walked to 'THE' mall and browsed the stores before buying some bananas (to get things moving) and a newspaper. Then my stomach said it was time for lunch. I considered Bamboo Village. Nah.....when you eat chinese food, in two two's you hungry again. My choice? Curlita's stall at the Grand Anse Campus of St George's University.

The great thing about countries where the exchange rate is stable, is that prices remain the same. So lunch is still EC$10.00. Bought pork, and cow heel soup (Friday is soup day there). Walked back to where I am staying, ate the pork, drank a Ting, took two sips of the soup and decided I would eat that this evening. Fell asleep in front of the tv (I said it was a lazy day init) then remembered Oprah.

She had the new Miss America on and some other people (91 million dollar lottery winner etc) who were talking about the moment that changed their life. Then I did the self talk.

"Michelle, you should really go and exercise you know - either swim or walk or do the gym".
"Lawks but I feeling so tired"
"Yes, but you're fat, git up off your butt and get moving"
"OK, I'll just exercise for a lil bit"
"Good girl"

So out of the hotel I go, only to see the owner driving out. He stops, hitches a reverse and gives me some really grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat news. You see how people who are not aliens behave? Boy I am telling you, life is good.

Walked around the stretch, then headed to the gym at Spice, where there was an American couple working out and watching some American Halloween live show. Can't see what all the fuss is about Halloween. Oh well, I'll have to get used to it. They left about 20 minutes after and then I had the gym to myself.

Did 10 minutes on the treadmill, 10 minutes on the bicycle and only a little bit of arm work. Really feeling lazy today. I guess it was the peas and rice I had with the pork? You think? Me thinks. Or maybe the chocolate I had afterwards (Chocolate is good for you init? Well so I have read).

Now I am heading back over and maybe I'll catch the sports news, then maybe I'll go to the 'cinemawr'. I'll decide later. Boy this is a great feeling. Having no plans and being able to do what I want.

Tomorrow morning, it's Breakfast at Tiffany's (only her name is Brigitte) and then who knows?

I'm on holiday!

Some of you would have got my email detailing the abrupt end to my short term stint with what I will call Alien Hotels & Resorts. So as of 5pm on Wednesday 29 October, I was free to start enjoying the Spice Isle, once I left that wretched hotel.

So, here's what I did once the taxi pulled up and loaded my many bags (must not pack so much stuff! darn it). We drove to the hotel where I would stay for the rest of my time here, and I told him under no circumstances was he to answer any questions about where he had dropped me. Got settled in very quickly, and was pleased to see that they had done some small changes since I was last there in May 2002. Ah, creature comforts, so unlike the Alien hotel. In what respects?

Well the AC here is quiet and actually cools the room, they have cable so more than the 8 or so channels I had to endure, the towels are plush (in the last 3 months I had forgotten what plush towels looked like), the bed is firm but not like a block of concrete as in one of the Alien hotels, there is an iron and ironing board and full kitchen facilities. Need I go on? OK, I won't.

Anyway, changed into my cocktail outfit for I was now going to my former former place of employment where I am made to feel welcomed. I was killing two birds with one stone, as the saying goes, by seeing cousin Raqs and some repeat guests who I keep in contact with from my days there. They don't look a day older. 14 trips to this hotel certainly agrees with them. After chit-chatting with the owner and his wife (another Alien concept at the Alien hotel), cocktails, and pictures of course (me = Gladys), it was to the bar for a drink with Raqs and the Resort Manager and wife, then up to dinner.

Scrumptious meal....oh, that's another thing that was lacking at the Alien hotels - scrumptious meals. That's an Alien concept for them. Here, the Seared Tuna was divine, the Baked Local Chicken flavourful, and ooooh la la, that smooth Nutmeg Ice Cream. Yes, I didn't stick to the "no carbohydrates after 5pm" plan. Twas a luverly evening, helped by those two delicious glasses of Chablis.

This morning, the Chablis took its toll. My body was in shock I think. So I got up at 6:30am....1.5 hours before I should have. Ordered Room Service and got a nicely shaped omelette that actually had crispy bacon in it, unlike the fatty stuff at the Alien Hotels. Let that go down, watched some of the CABLE TV, then had a small bowl of cereal.

Headed out to the bank, had to go back to the wretched hotel to get a document so that I could lodge the dosh. The regular FC was delayed from a trip abroad so I, with the patience of JOB, waited about 2 hours for her to arrive and prepare the document. Back to the bank, then hopped on a bus into town. Surprise, surprise. This one doesn't have music blaring. And I get to sit in the front.

Went to the airline, bought my ticket (having been left stranded by Alien Hotels), then called a friend who was going to take me to Immigration to extend my stay but he said it was too late so we'd do that tomorrow. Went to Creole Shack and had late lunch. Lawks these people need training. Had pork, fish and veggies. Pork wasn't all that good.

Remembering that having cable tv meant that I could watch Oprah, I hopped on a bus back up this side, stopped at the supermarket, and headed back 'home'. So good to be back to normal, with normal people in a hotel which functions like you'd expect a normal hotel to function.

More in a few days about my touristy activities. I'm enjoying every minute of it. If you haven't been here, you definitely need to take in this island. I promise you, you won't be disappointed, and nobody will ask you to leave abruptly. Promise.

Is Corn a Carbohydrate???

If yes, then I didn't achieve one of my goals last evening for I had corn-on-the-cob for dinner. But the good thing is (and there is a good thing in every seemingly 'bad' thing if you look hard enough) is that I didn't eat all.

Neither did I eat all of the ONE scoop of delicious Nutmeg icecream I ordered at dinner on Monday night (at an outside restaurant). Neither did I eat all of the cheese in the salad for lunch on Monday. Neither did I exercise for one hour on Monday (insert sad face here). But I did exercise for about 40 minutes though. Even when I felt like I was going to bring it up. I told the stuff to stay down, and so it did.

Tuesday, this is what I ate.

Breakfast
1 cheese & bacon omelette, 1 slice whole wheat toast, few pieces of grapefruits and a cup of tea with milk only (no sugar)

Lunch
Salad with lettuce, cabbage, carrots, cheese and a grilled chicken breast, plus water

Dinner
1 chicken thigh, 1 piece swordfish, some of the corn, steamed cho-cho carrot and ochro, a salad with lettuce, cheese (few likkle bits), and carrots, plus water.

Had nothing else - no sweet drink, no dessert (I psyched myself up NOT to go to the dessert table), no chocolate, no nuts.

And you know before, if I got up after not being able to sleep (like tonight), I would have snacked on something and then gone to sleep buff. But here I am writing instead. Remember to add 1 hour on the time of this post and you will see that it is something to 1AM.

Which means no exercise Wednesday morning either, and none Wednesday evening for sure because I am going to cocktails. Wait michmac.....social life pick up since you celebrated your birthday. Well you know, life is for living, but as the years creep on, I'm trying to shoooo away the pounds. Remember the Foxy Fortysomething gal I mentioned in the Niblets? That's what I'm working towards.

Of course, to some people I'm already foxy, but for me, this is a work in progress. Forge on to Forty (Forty- pound loss that is...nuh mind that the written goal is 20 pounds! Think big - that's no problem for me man).

A New Page

"The Ultimate Weight Solution: The 7 Keys to Weight Loss Freedom" by Dr Phil (of Oprah fame) is what I am reading now. Given to me as a gift for my birthday, I started turning the pages two days ago. Last night, I reached the page where it asks you to write things down. So here's what I wrote.

WITH SPECIFICITY, WRITE WHAT IT IS YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE:
I hope to lose 20 pounds by 1st March 2004 and to wear a size 14.
I hope to achieve a lifestyle which sustains this weight loss.

DESCRIBE WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Reduce calories at every meal.
Exercise at least 4 times a week
Stop eating after 7:30pm and no carbohydrates after 5:00pm

WHEN YOU LOSE WEIGHT, YOU WANT TO FEEL.....
Confident to wear pants with the blouse tucked in
A better shaped body
More energetic

I WILL TAKE CERTAIN STEPS TO REACH MY GOAL WEIGHT. THESE STEPS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Reduce calories at every meal
Exercise 4 times a week for 1 hour
Go to bed by 10:00pm
Eat all meals and brush teeth by 7:30pm, unless there is a really really special late occasion!

CREATE ACCOUNTABILITY: HAVE A TRUSTED, LOYAL CHECKPOINT PERSON IN YOUR LIFE TO WHOM YOU REQUIRE YOURSELF TO REPORT ON YOUR PROGRESS, YOUR COMPLIANCE TOWARD REACHING YOUR GOAL.

I've decided that this person will be...

...everyone who reads Yamfoot.

So, first report is, I am up early this morning. The time on this entry is 1 hour earlier than it is, so don't be THAT impressed by the time of this post. Add 1 hour. There is something liberating waking up before the sun, when most of you would still be in your beds.

Armed with Dr Phil's book, I bounced up to the Front Desk to get the key to the room where I am writing this. There, I see the LIAT pilot who gave me that smooth landing on my last trip from Calypso Land to the Spice Isle. Now let me tell you, I said that I bounced right? Well, the clock did alarm yes, I did bounce out of the bed, but I have to tell you, I did bounce right back in.

Now there's a reason for that. I was having a particularly good dream. I had returned to Calypso Land and headed straight for the Sales office (that's where the desk that I use is located). I realized that I needed a shower, so looked in the overnight bag I had carried with me to find that all I had in there was a pair of pyjamas (pink) and a bathrobe (also pink). How was I to walk across the lobby dressed like this after my shower?

The dilemna that faced me quickly disappeared and the dream turned to food. OK, maybe I am now haunted by the food goals I have set for my new page in life. Yesterday I read about Chef Meredith from Pegasus in the Sunday Gleaner. So the dream now took me to a restaurant outlet at Pegasus, where none other than Leon prepared my meal. It was seafood based, with some greens, and it was delicious. Tender, fleshy, juicy, succulent...

...like me. Which could be a good thing for some, and a not so good thing for others. Like me. So I'm going for the lean cut, but still want to maintain the juiciness and succulentness! I have to be honest and say that my choices where food is concerned have not always been aligned to the weight loss goals (there goals aren't new eh, just in case y'all thought so....just the timeline has changed!). Why? Well that's what Dr Phil is going to tell me.

I'm only on to Chapter 2 now. But aren't you proud that I have sprung into action so quickly? Just like a spring chicken. Don't worry, even having celebrated the 37th last week, I do feel like a spring chicken, but the meaty variety.

Oh, oh....I suddenly feel ill. Like I am about to bring up the tea with lime and sugar, the too ripe banana and the handful of Oatmeal cereal I had before coming down to write this (I need energy to fuel my workout dears). Excuse me nuh, let me go and get rid of this feeling. (Of course, if I let nature take its course and reverse the direction of the stuff I ate, that will contribute to me achieving my goal of less calories!).

I'll report in sometime this week. Monitor me.

Rain, rain and more rain

It was Bim's turn last week, now ours. As I got dressed this morning, a noise drew my attention to the sliding door. There, in the middle of the sunshine, were buckets and buckets of rain. Naturally, as this is the Caribbean, after about 10 minutes it stopped.

But throughout the day, there were many such instances. As I write, it is now pouring...

I am on my way 'home' and wished that in the midst of this rain, there were buckets and buckets of men from which I could choose a tall, dark and handsome one to cuddle up to.

(Aint I ambitious in my 'old' age)

How Le Birthday Went

Behaved like a "Gladys" as I usually do on my birthday (I firmly believe that birthdays must be treated specially) by writing on a page in my notepad "Today is my birthday" and showing it to everybody in the office. Told the Room Attendant, told the Room Service person who took my order, told the Whole Wide World.

The day was aiming to go downhill because of an incident, but I quickly rectified that and perked my spirits up.

Spirits were further perked up by a walk on the beach around sunset time to the place where I used to work. Chatted with a few employees, got treated to a drink and then walked back up the beach.....IN THE DARK!!!! Think I could ever do that in Jamdown? No shocking way. What bliss.

More bliss later at the dinner venue...remember those pictures I posted called Bel Air? Well they have a luverly restaurant right at the Water's Edge, and it's called just that...Water's Edge. Lovely atmosphere, excellent company in the form of a colleague from Trinidad, and just an allround pleasant evening.

Got 'home' before the official end of my special day, so I wouldn't turn into a pumpkin! Was I looking like a pumkin? Dunno. You'll have to ask my dinner companion wouldn't you.

Can't wait to spend a day like this again....so I won't! Anybody wants to give me their birthday so I can celebrate it for them?

The day is halfway gone, well no, not really, only 7 more hours. Wonder if I can stretch it out sah? It's nice feeling like queen for a day.

Anyway, more anon.

It Soon Come!!!!!

You hever ear anybody so excited about dem birt-day? There's always a first for everything.

So I told you the plans for the pre-birth-day. Rushed off to the foot lady to give these here yamfeet a little bit of loving (got to start with the feet you know!). Now the feet are very fussy. They don't like any and every pedicurist. But I think they liked this one for first thing she brought out was the grater looking device. Yipee. Smooth again. And if that weren't enough, next came the razor. Now I've read that those things are not supposed to be used, but I think today, they were warranted. But what took the cake next, was a paper looking very much like sandpaper....yes, you know the same thing they use on construction sites to smooth the hard walls. Mi was too shame fi look and see if is really sandpaper, but I do believe that's what it was.

I looked up at the calendar and it said October 22. A little bit previous, but just another reminder of the upcoming special day, when I think I alone was born all dem 30-buff years a-back. Of course there are probably millions of people celebrating their special day in the next 15 minutes or so, but I always feel like is me one.

After the lady gingerly put my now soft, colourful feet back into the slippers, I hopped on the bus only to go a mile up the road to the plaza. Had to get a few items in the Wellness store, and picked up some fruits as well, including 2 June plums or pomme cythere as they are called here. For good measure, bought a TCBY sundae....have to complete the food groups naturally.

Hopped on a bus back to my current place of abode, watched part of a movie with Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt conning the daylights out of people, ordered dinner, ate it, then went to collect my package. How lovely!

The countdown now starts in earnest.....15, 14, 13, 12, etc minutes to go. I will walk around tomorrow with a big grin on my face, and tell everybody that it's my birthday. You don't blame me? When you get told that you look 12 years younger than you really are, that's reason to celebrate baby. What bliss!

Birthday Buildup

How many days to my birthday? Three. Time for the countdown to start.

Today was exercise. I must not start another year of life in an exercise rut as I have been for the past couple of months. Tomorrow is work, and perhaps exercise, if I can wake up early. Tuesday is the day to look after the toes. And on Wednesday the big day, there is dinner at a nice restaurant, then who knows what. However it turns out, I will be sure to enjoy it.

Oh, just in case people here don't know it's my birthday, I am going to make a sign, just like the one I made last year at university "Today is my birthday" and walk around with it. So you think I'm a nut. That's your biz niz. You see the bottom of my emails? Always do what make YOU happy, what YOU want. Learn dat.

Chance Encounters

This world not as large as some of oonu tink.

After lazing around today (day off), went on the beach. No, not to swim, but to take a circuitous route to the gym. The gym was a must today after what I ate! As this is Grenada, the friendliest island in the Caribbean (no joke), I get into the friendly mood everytime I come here (when in Rome, do as the Romans do).

So it is dusk, the sun has already set, and I see a man, well the shadow of a man, so I say "hello" and continue walking. That's what happens here....you walking down the street, and people say hello to you just like that. It's infectious. A few seconds later, the man says "Michelle?".

Well would you look at that! Mi know di man! Well known Caribbean economist, here for a meeting. So we stand and chat for about an hour about economies, the Caribbean etc. I remind him of the last time we met. Another chance encounter on Oxford Street in big ole London.

This world is too small. So my motto is, well one of them, "treat people with respect, you never know where you going to buck them up again". Walk good, as Miss Shanti would say.

Friday evening splash

On a beautiful evening in Grenada (most are like that Belgian Chocolate kind of weather), I decided that I would not stay cooped up in the room. The pulsating beat of soca found its way to my door, calling me, begging me to come out and play. So I listened. I follow instructions very well you know....MissProperlyBroughtUp.

Headed to the park near Spiceland Mall. Digicel was having their Grenada launch with a splash. Fireworks, big stage, two screens....all the trappings of a stage show.

Featured artiste was Machel Montano. He brought the crowd alive after only Tall Pre of the Grenadian acts was able to do anything close. Mr Montano isn't a kid anymore. He wowed the audience with a mix of soca and reggae.

And my didn't it please my lil ole heart to see the Grenadians go in a frenzy when the reggae dancehall tunes were played by the DJ. Of course, some of the tunes I didn't know, but the Grenadians were busy singing away. True Caribbean unity. That's the power of music.

Haagen Dazs Part 2

A friend came by to visit on Thursday. I asked for a ride to the supermarket to pick up some stuff (the priority was dental floss). Filled up the basked with a few goodies. How nice it was not to have to calculate the total before I got to the cash register to avoid embarrassment. Freedom.

Going through the aisles, I spotted the unmistakable wrapping of the most delicious ice cream in the world (after those gelatos I had in Sardinia - Italy in 1993). Got to have one. Caramel Fudge. That'll do.

Brought it 'home', ordered a piece of cake to go with it and ate half the pint. Put the rest in the freezer, which had started to drip water. I was told that it was because it was plugged out, no problem man. Lo and behold, I wake up Friday morning to liquid Haagen Dazs! Oh well, saved me 270 calories so I shouldn't complain I guess.

Wednesday Night at the Movies

So after I finished reading "The Note", there was nothing else that could come close, in terms of interest. What else to do but watch TV. Guess what was on Patch? Scarface. "I'm Tony Montana" blah blah blah. Al Pacino in his young years. Depressing to see what coke, greed and money can do to you.

After that finished, I turned to another movie which so contrasted Scarface. Pretty Woman. Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan don't you wish you could find that guy in the white suit or whatever Vivian said her fairytale guy would have on.

Ah well, that's only in the movies. Get back to the real world.

The Note

Finished reading this book last Wednesday. Very touching. It started off slowly then it got more interesting as it went along. In a nutmegshell, the story is about a newspaper features writer in Tampa who gets caught up in the aftermath of an airline crash in the area. A resident finds a note, apparently written by a passenger to his daughter. She gives it to the writer who sets out to find who it was intended for. Her search takes her to 3 people who had fathers on the plane. One of them claimed the note to be his, only to get fame.

And then, when the writer least expects it, she gets a visit from a young woman who says the note is really hers and so it is. But that's not the only thing. The young woman turns out to be the daughter that the writer had given away as a young depressed mother, after the death of her young husband. Unexpected twist I thought. Brought a lump to the ole throat.

Separation Saturday

That's what they called yesterday in American College Football. And my future team, the Hokies, beat...no, that should be whooped.... Syracuse 51 - 7.

Go Hokies.

That's the name for the Virginia Tech football team, ranked 4th in the country. I guess while I am there, I will have to become a football fan, and actually learn the game. Well if I did it with cricket, I sure can do it with a simple game like American football.

Go Hokies.

The Doors of our Lives

Was reading 'O' magazine last night, and it's an edition on aging. This one article had women of different ages talking about what it felt like being their age, compared to what they thought it would have been like.

One person, a 38 year old, mentioned something about the doors we go through in our lives. Then I had a thought. How would my life have been different today, if I had chosen one door instead of the ones I chose at various ages in my life. So I started to make a list.....

10 yrs old Choose St Hugh's Choose other school
11 Choose French Choose Spanish
15 Go to France Go to 6th form
16 Repeat 6th form Leave 6th form
18 Do Hotel Mgmt
20 Do summer job Loaf out summer
21 Do internship in Jamaica
22 Work at Kgn hotel
31 Work in Grenada
Scholarship
etc etc
this year Accept short term Go on to Phd
contract

I have been asking myself since July this year, where this last door I have chosen will take me to. The future is yet to be seen. Isn't it exciting?

My Birthday

22nd OCTOBER

Posted by yamfoot at 03:34 AM | Comments (5)

Early Morning Blues

As predicted, I got about two hours sleep Thursday night. Wha fi do? Cyan do nuttin. So I hurried myself as fast as I could, to leave for the airport in good time. Reached to POS airport about 55 minutes before the flight was due to depart. Long line. Then they called people from my flight to come forward. Got checked in in good time, only to be told that I am overweight. Yes, I know that, by about 30 pounds, well 31 - after that Haagen Dazs the night before. Oh, the luggage you mean.

So I tell the agent that it's the same two cases I travelled with from Spice Isle to Calypso Land last month and didn't have to pay any overweight. The lady probably wanted to do at least one thing right for the day, so she held my luggage and told me I had to speak to the LIAT rep. I was in no mood to argue. Hell, I was still half asleep.

The scrawny lad told me I had to pay. First time in my life I have had to pay overweight. That's why you mustn't travel pon dem si-mall airlines you know. US$34.00 to brute.

Then to make matters worse, I had had to wait long time to reach up to scrawny fella. "This is a final boarding call for all passengers on LIAT flight 310". Lawks. Now I hadda rush. Steupps. Reach to the place to pay departure tax. Long line. One person collecting money! More steupps. I just walked up to the top of the line. It's understood in these situations. Nobody says "go jine di line" to you. Imbecciles. How dem must have one person collecting tax????

Well I made it on the flight. Only to be sat next to a lady who was about twice my size. Got a neck ache from having to lean over into the aisle while reading the newspapers. The people at the airline counter should remember who they put to sit in which seat and make sure and match scrawny with overweight. Anyway, good thing is only a half hour flight.

Although the weather was a bit iffy, the flight was smooth and the landing even smoother. I had had dinner with the co-pilot the last time he was in Trini and he remembered me from then, so after the flight I went and told him what a good one it was. Really smooth landing. No bumping at all.

Arrived at the hotel with some others who were on the same flight, after sailing through immigration and customs. That's why I always like coming back here. They don't give you no hassle, unlike Trinidad.

Slept the whole day, and when I say the whole day, I mean the whole day. Tucked myself under the blanket at about 7:30am, woke at about 12:30pm, emptied my bladder, went back to sleep and woke at about 3:45pm. It felt good I tell you.

Well consequence was me not falling asleep early Friday night, and that carrying over to Saturday night. Heck, look what time I am doing these postings!!!!!!

A Parting Gift

On Thursday last, I announced that 22 October was my birthday. A colleague said she had to send me some Haagen Dazs since I was not going to be in Calypso Land but in Spice Land for my birthday. Well I thought that was what she said. So later that afternoon, I saw her again and she asked what flavour. And if they didn't have Cookies & Cream? Then Pralines & Cream. I thought she was kidding.

Later that night, I get a call to say she is coming up to the restaurant. With guess what? Haagen Dazs! Made my night, especially since I had to be up early for a 6:00 am flight, much to my dislike.

People don't realize that it's the little things they do that make others feel special.

A day off!

First official day off in about 4 weeks. How am I going to spend it? Working of course. No rest for the wicked. Things to do, people to train, material to prepare.

But I will spend the day part of the day doing business transactions (I can't say "go to the bank" here because they will kidnap me!) and searching for stuff I need. What stuff do you need Yamfoot? Well nothing I really NEED, but perhaps a few things I WANT.....which includes some Haagen Dazs. Only then will I be ready to start working (on my day off)

Indian food....yum

Had roti, pholourie, katchorie, and some sauce made out of pomme cythere, plus another thing starting with S and made from dasheen and spinach. Can't remember. All very delicious. Indian food is my favourite food apart from Caribbean food.

Must have some ice cream in the next few days. I remember being in Surrey and ordering in Indian food from The India restaurant. They used to sell the small tubs of Haagen Dazs, so my treat would be the food (tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, roti skin and basmati rice usually) plus a small tub of Cookies 'N Cream. I will make another trip to Ellerslie Plaza in the next few days to see if they have any Cookies ' N Cream yet. Then I'll have to find more Indian food to eat it with...for old times sake.

Sardines and Nails

When I was in high school, a friend of mine had beautiful nails which would grow just like that. Me now used to struggle, and in fact I couldn't have long nails because of the endless piano lessons I used to take (15 years!). When I asked my friend how she got her nails to be so long and strong, she said she ate a lot of sardines, including the bone.

We used to get sardine sandwiches in high school, but still no long nails for me, probably because Pops used to take out the bones! Anyway, earlier this year, I decided to shift from eating Oats porridge ("your Oats ARE ready!") to sardine or mackerel for breakfast. Still no nail growth.

Now all of a sudden, I have long nails. Hear them click, click, click as I pound out these notes on the keyboard. I continued the sardine eating habit when I first came down the islands, then I started to feel ill, so switched to an Omelette. I know egg shells have calcium which are supposed to be good for nails, but I haven't got any shells in the omelettes I have had.

So that's another question you all have to answer. Why are my nails growing? Don't get me wrong you know....I'm not complaining. Just want answers....typical of my curious nature.
