Tragedy in the Spice Isle

In the wee hours of this morning, while I was wrapped up in my comfortable bed, a mother of one was losing her life because of the idiocy and irresponsible behaviour of an 18 year old.

Police signalled the driver of a car to stop at about 1:30am. It was coming off a road called 'the lane' which has an incline. It was also speeding.

The next thing, Ms Scott, who was in her bed sleeping, was transitioning this life because the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed straight into her bedroom and landed on her bed, on top of her.

I understand that the driver was in hospital. He may have died, but not sure. He had two other passengers in the car. None had a valid drivers' licence it was reported.

The mother of the driver, understandably, was quite distraught. Can't blame her. But could she have prevented the type of behaviour exhibited by her son which ended the life of Ms Scott in such a bizare manner?

Birthday hairdo...

Apart from running around the streets of Kingston today, and passing by Devon House with whole heap of police because apparently a flower vendor had been shot, I went to the hair dresser today. This is the only person in Jamaica who cuts my hair when it is relaxed. I have written about her before.

Anyway, after she was done, this is what the hair looked like...Pardon the photos as the girls didn't know how to use the digital camera but they did a good enough job I think. Take a look....

Sorry, you're too late!

Happy Birthday to me!

It's all about me today. Happy birfday to me, happy birfday to me....
So I will get telephone calls, emails, got some visits already yesterday. But I like birthdays. It's the one day you are allowed to be self absorbing and show that you are in love with yourself.

I am happier this year with how my body looks too. Must be all that dancing recently. All things are coming together nicely!

Road trip!

Saturday, we headed out on Highway 2000. (It look like in fareign eeee?)
Highway1.JPG

This was our destination. Mission: To look for The Niece

The school is quite compact, and perched on a hill. I thought it would have been more vast.

We had to hunt for the House mother, who then told us that The Niece was in the cafeteria. She and her friend ran out squealing and hugged the mother and aunty. The cameras captured those too.

We had come outside of visiting hours, so we only had 15 minutes with her before nap time. Well they don't really have to sleep....according to the House mother, they have to be in their dorms and be quiet. Difficult for the Niece.

When it was time to go, there were more squeals, this time, not of delight but "why you have to go?"

But she seems to be adjusting well. They are only allowed one phone call per week, and to come home every third week. We are waiting on the call to tell us that she won't be coming home but rather, will be staying with her new best friend instead!

Stepping on the scales

Whenever I travel, I step on the scale when I leave and when I return. And of course, when I come to the Rock, I go to the gym and use that scale as the mother of all scales.

In the Barbados airport, the scale said 203. Great! Last time I checked I was 205.

So I go to the gym today, step on the scale and guess what.....

199! Yay!

I guess Hot Wukking + Not having time to be bored to eat crap = weight loss!
A win-win situation! *wink*

How NOT to steal an airline blanket!

A Trinidadian friend introduced me to airline blankets while we were at university in the Bahamas. I had always admired them as being useful for things other than keeping you warm on those cold flights.

So I 'took' my first blanket many years ago. Cold sweat I am sure was washing me, but since then it's no biggy. I have a collection which spans British Airways, American Airlines, and of course the airlines in the Caribbean. Just carry a big enough, empty enough bag on board with you.

I was tempted to give these two girls some tips as they looked at the blanket and looked at each other....

So we coming out of the plane, they obviously wanted it and I thought they were going to stuff it into the bag they were carrying. It had oodles of space. I was going to tell them to do that, but then I say lemme shut my trap. The silly girls take up di blanket, walk with it IN DEM HANDS up to the front of the plane and says to the purser "can we take this?"

Of course, the purser says "no, sorry, it's airline property" and takes it from them. Tut tut. Meanwhile in the cold of the night here on the rock, I wrap up in my soft, warm airline blanket. I can pick, choose and refuse which one I sleep with!
